I checked Scopes for statistics and found it listed as "mostly accurate", sounds like a good idea to me.

Just got this e-mail and I think it is a great idea.

WAL-MART

1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private Employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket Chains sought bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 Years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy because the idiots in Washington sure can't do it!

Update om Bob

As most of you know, Bob's been in the hospital since last Wednesday with major health problems. Sunday they said he was only 1% there, then Monday he started doing much better, he was able to use single words and lift his hand. Tuesday he was making short sentences and they moved him out of ICU. Well, Tuesday night, Wednesday morning sometime he had another massive stroke, was moved back into the CCU and put on life support. They did an MRI on Wednesday and found evidence of numerous strokes. They said that with Alot of rehab he MIGHT be able to survive this for about 6 months, in the hospital, before the lung cancer finally took him.
Joe and Robert made the very difficult decision not to continue life support (as per Bobs wishes, He had a DNR and final directive/living will at the hospital). The doctors are now giving him about 2 days.
I'll let everyone know of any changes, as well as when and where the funeral services will be after he passes.
Please keep Joe and Robert in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time for them.

Whose medical decisions?

Thomas Sowell - Syndicated Columnist - 8/18/2009 9:20:00 AM

The serious, and sometimes chilling, provisions of the medical care legislation that President Obama has been trying to rush through Congress are important enough for all of us to stop and think, even though his political strategy from the outset has been to prevent us from having time to stop and think about it.

What we also should stop to think about is the mindset behind this legislation, which is very consistent with the mindset behind other policies of this administration, whether the particular issue is bailing out General Motors, telling banks who to lend to, or appointing "czars" to tell all sorts of people in many walks of life what they can and cannot do.

The idea that government officials can play God from Washington is not a new idea, but it is an idea that is being pushed with new audacity.

What they are trying to do is to create an America very unlike the America that has existed for centuries -- the America that people have been attracted to by the millions from every part of the world, the America that many generations of Americans have fought and died for.

This is the America for which Michelle Obama expressed her resentment before it became politically expedient to keep quiet.

It is the America that Reverend Jeremiah Wright denounced in his sermons during the 20 years when Barack Obama was a parishioner, before political expediency required Obama to withdraw and distance himself.

The thing most associated with America -- freedom -- is precisely what must be destroyed if this is to be turned into a fundamentally different country to suit Obama's vision of the country and of himself. But do not expect a savvy politician like Barack Obama to express what he is doing in terms of limiting our freedom.

He may not even think of it in those terms. He may think of it in terms of promoting "social justice" or making better decisions than ordinary people are capable of making for themselves, whether about medical care or housing or many other things. Throughout history, egalitarians have been among the most arrogant people.

Obama has surrounded himself with people who also think it is their job to make other people's decisions for them. Not just Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, his healthcare advisor who complains of Americans' "over-utilization" of medical care, but also Professor Cass Sunstein, who has written a whole book on how third parties should use government power to "nudge" people into making better decisions in general.

Then there is a whole array of Obama administration officials who take it as their job to pick winners and losers in the economy and tell companies how much they can and cannot pay their executives.

Just as magicians know that the secret of some of their tricks is to distract the audience, so politicians know that the secret of many political tricks is to distract the public with scapegoats.

No one is more of a political magician than Barack Obama. At the beginning of 2008, no one expected a shrewd and experienced politician like Hillary Clinton to be beaten for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States by someone completely new to the national political scene. But Obama worked his political magic, with the help of the media, which he still has.

Barack Obama's escapes from his own past words, deeds, and associations have been escapes worthy of Houdini.

Like other magicians, Obama has chosen his distractions well. The insurance industry is currently his favorite distraction as scapegoats, after he has tried to demonize doctors without much success.

Saints are no more common in the insurance industry than in politics or even among paragons of virtue like economists. So there will always be horror stories, even if these are less numerous or less horrible than what is likely to happen if Obamacare gets passed into law.

Obama even gets away with saying things like having a system to "keep insurance companies honest" -- and many people may not see the painful irony in politicians trying to keep other people honest. Certainly most of the media are unlikely to point out this irony.

Democrats' 'bait-and-switch'

Star Parker - Syndicated Columnist - 8/17/2009 10:10:00 AM

Barack Obama won the presidency under the persona of healer. He promised to unify a divided nation and said how he would do this.

He'd put ideology aside and solve problems. And he'd bring new open, bipartisan governing to Washington, devoid of special interests.

Now, six months into this presidency we have exactly the opposite.

Rather than temperatures dropping, they have steadily risen to their current fever pitch.

Rather than becoming more unified, we've never been more divided.

According to the Pew Research Center, the gap between approval rates for the president from Democrats (85 percent) and Republicans (19 percent) is now 66 points. For George W. Bush at about the same time in his presidency, this gap was 51 points. For Bill Clinton it was 45, George H.W. Bush 38, Reagan 46, Carter 25, and Nixon 29.

It's not just Republicans. The gap between the president's approval from Democrats and from independents has expanded from 25 points last February to 37 points today.

And the new open, bipartisan approach to governing?

Listen to remarks (posted on You Tube) by Rep. Tom Price, a Republican from Georgia, to Democratic committee chairman George Miller, during mark-up several weeks ago of the healthcare bill.

Here's an excerpt: "...we would have loved to have worked with you on this...but you know there was no opportunity to do that...Speaker Pelosi told a member of your conference that if you talk with Republicans about this, you'll be shut out of the room...you know that this hasn't been a bi-partisan effort."

Price, a soft-spoken physician who practiced medicine for over 25 years, brandished the thousand-page bill and went on about what the government takeover of medicine will do to healthcare in this country.

The sheer arrogance of trying to re-write the rules for almost one-fifth of the American economy, more than $2.5 trillion dollars in annual expenditures, with a few weeks of deliberation is without precedent. How can such an effort be done openly or responsibly?

Now we learn that the pharmaceutical industry's support for this initiative has been bought by the administration with promises that, in exchange, there will be no government meddling in the pricing of drugs.

Soon we'll see glowing TV ads extolling the virtues of the Democrats' healthcare plan, probably talking about the special interests trying to stop it, being paid for by those special interests. Report is that PhRMA, the pharmaceutical industry trade association, is kicking in $150 million.

The head of PhRMA, Billy Tauzin, who negotiated with the administration on behalf of his member drug companies, is a Washington insider poster child. He was a congressman from Louisiana for 25 years who then parlayed his accumulated contacts and influence to get hired to head PhRMA for a reported $2.5 million in compensation.

This is the new way we do business in Washington? How we reform healthcare? How Washington operators tirelessly protect the interests of citizens and work to preserve a great country?

Six months into this Democratic administration, we find that Americans have been duped by a great bait-and-switch.

We were sold promises of a sparkling new era, stripped down of ideology and influence peddling.

What we have gotten is a hyper-ambitious government takeover of our economy, driven by left-wing ideology, carried out using the most cynical business-as-usual inside Washington influence peddling.

And to lend irony to it all, when outraged citizens grasp what is happening and protest, they are accused of disrupting democracy and racism.

To recall the words of economist Herbert Stein, "If something cannot go on forever, it will stop."

Hopefully this will stop before we'll need history books to recall the once American dream of freedom and prosperity.

Dispute This!

I would be happy to hear anyone refute any of the following Observations of the President's 1st 100 Days:

1. Offended the Queen of England

2. Bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia

3. Praised the Marxist Daniel Ortega,

4. Kissed Hugo Chavez on the cheek

5. Endorsed the Socialist Evo Morales of Bolivia

6. Announced we would meet with Iranians with no pre-conditions

7. Gave away billions to AIG also without pre-conditions.

8. Expanded the bailouts

9. Insulted everyone who has ever loved a Special Olympian

10. Doubled our national debt

11. Announced a termination of the space defense system the day after the North Koreans launched an ICBM.

12. Despite the urgings of his own CIA director and the prior CIA directors, released information on intelligence gathering

13. Accepted without public comment the fact that five of his cabinet members cheated on their taxes and two others withdrew after they couldn't take the heat

14.. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who quickly identified as "dangers to the nation", groups including veteran of the military, and opponents to abortion on demand, and who ordered that the word "terrorism" no longer be used but instead referred to such acts as "man made disasters.

15. Circled the globe so he could openly apologize for America's greatness.

16. Told Mexicans the violence in their country was because of us...

17. Politicized the census by moving it into the White House from its Department of Commerce origins

18. Appointed as Attorney General the man who orchestrated the forced removal and expulsion from America to Cuba of nine-year old whose mother died trying to bring him a life of freedom in the United States.

19. Salutes as heroes three Navy SEALS who took down three terrorists who threatened one American life and the next day announces members of the Bush administration will likely stand trial for torturing a terrorist who had played a part in killing
3000 Americans by pouring water up their nose.

20. Air Force One over New York City

21.. And last but certainly not least, wiped out the life saving of thousands of Chrysler and GM bond holders.

And now the police are stupid too.
1360 more FRIGHTENING days to go...but dang he reads a great speech!

Congress to Outsource U.S. Presidency

Congress Votes to Outsource Presidency
Washington, DC, July 10, 2009

Congress today announced that the office of President of the United States
of America will be outsourced to India as of September 1, 2009.

The move is being made in order to save the President's $500000 yearly
salary, and also a record $750 billion in deficit expenditures and related
overhead that his office has incurred during the last 3 months.

It is anticipated that $7 trillion can be saved to the end of the
President's term. "We believe this is a wise financial move. The cost
savings are huge," stated Congressman Thomas Reynolds (R-Wa). "We cannot
remain competitive on the world stage with the current level of cash
outlay," Reynolds noted.

Obama was informed by email this morning of his termination. Preparations
for the job move have been underway for some time.

Gurvinder Singh, a tele-technician for Indus Teleservices, Mumbai India,
will assume the office of President as of September 1, 2009. Mr. Singh was
born in the United States while his Indian parents were vacationing at
Niagara Falls, NY, thus making him eligible for the position. He will
receive a salary of $320 (USD) a month, but no health coverage or other
benefits. It is believed that Mr. Singh will be able to handle his job
responsibilities without a support staff.

Due to the time difference between the US and India, he will be working
primarily at night. "Working nights will allow me to keep my day job at the
Dell Computer call center," stated Mr. Singh in an exclusive interview. "I
am excited about this position. I always hoped I would be President."

A Congressional spokesperson noted that while Mr. Singh may not be fully
aware of all the issues involved in the office of President, this should not
be a problem as Obama had never been familiar with the issues either. Mr.
Singh will rely upon a script tree that will enable him to respond
effectively to most topics of concern. Using these canned responses, he can
address common concerns without having to understand the underlying issue at
all. "We know these scripting tools work," stated the spokesperson. "Obama
has used them successfully for years, with the result that some people
actually thought he knew what he was talking about."

Obama will receive health coverage, expenses, and salary until his final day
of employment. Following a 2-week waiting period, he will be eligible for
$140 a week unemployment for 26 weeks. Unfortunately he will not be
eligible for Medicaid, as his unemployment benefits will exceed the allowed
limit.

Obama has been provided with the outplacement services of Manpower, Inc. to
help him write a resume and prepare for his upcoming job transition.
According to Manpower, Obama may have difficulties in securing a new
position due to a lack of any successful work experience during his
lifetime.

A greeter position at Wal-Mart was suggested due to Obama's extensive
Experience at shaking hands, as well as his special smile.

Presidential comparison quiz

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Tony Blair a set of inexpensive and useless (to Tony Blair's UK video formatting) DVDs, when Tony Blair had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive?

Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 10 weeks -- so you'll have three years, nine-and-a-half months to come up with an answer.

Barack Obama A Marxist-Socialist in 1990's

From the AmeriPac.org website:

Barack Obama A Marxist-Socialist in 1990's
Web Bloggers Unearth Evidence Buried Deep by the Media

Socialist ”New Party” Connections to Obama included in this document:

    • marx_socialistObama member of Socialist Party
    • Obama contract with Socialist Party
    • Obama support of and by Socialist Party
    • Obama Socialist Party connection to ACORN
    • Obama Connection ACORN
    • Obama Connection to Castro
    • William Ayers Connection to Socialist Party
    • William Ayers Connection to Castro

Democratic candidate Barack Obama was a member of the socialist New Party during the 1990s, according to new evidence unearthed by web bloggers. Obama received the Socialist party’s endorsement for his state Senate run in 1996.

Everything is documented at websites within the Chicago Democratic Socialist Party archives. There is no conjecture; no guessing the fact is that as recently as 1996 Senator Obama was an active member of the Chicago Democratic Socialist Party.

Will the mainstream media cover what once were allegations but which now appear to be proven facts? WE MUST FORCE THEM TO DO IT!

Reports earlier this summer that Obama was associated with the New Party were vigorously denied by the Obama campaign and the New Party, but researchers examining internet archives have found New Party documents clearly indicating Obama was a member of the party, received its endorsement and encouraged Party members to work with him in the Illinois statehouse.

"Progressive Populist" a socialist magazine, in November 1996 recognized that Obama was indeed an acknowledged member of the Socialist Party. "New Party members and supported candidates won 16 of 23 races… New Party member Barack Obama was uncontested for a State Senate seat from Chicago. "

The Democratic Socialist Party of America published in their July/August Edition of New Ground 47 Newsletter. "The Chicago New Party is increasingly becoming a viable political organization… The New Party has continued to solidify this base...” “winning electoral primaries. All four candidates attended the NEW PARTY membership meeting on April 11th 1996 to express their gratitude. Barack Obama, victor in the 13th State Senate District, encouraged NPers to join in his task forces on Voter Education and Voter Registration." Part of the ACORN connection described later.

Senator Obama Signed a CONTRACT WITH THE CHICAGO SOCIALIST PARTY agreeing to maintain a relationship with the Marxist-led party during his senate term.

In the March - April, 1996 Edition of New Ground 45 in an article entitled, A Town Meeting on Economic Insecurity: Employment and Survival in Urban America By Bob Roman clearly states the Obama New Party connection. Written in the article is that Obama accepted NEW PARTY support and must sign a contract with the NEW PARTY where “the contract mandates that they (Obama) must have a visible and active relationship with the NEW PARTY”. The NEW PARTY's political strategy is to support progressive candidates in elections only if they have a concrete chance to "win". This has resulted in a winning ratio of 77 of 110 elections. Candidates must be approved via a NEW PARTY political committee. Once approved, candidates must sign a contract with the NEW PARTY. The contract mandates that they must have a visible and active relationship with the NEW PARTY. Obama was an approved and supported NEW PARTY candidate.

On the Democratic Socialist of America (DSA) website is a description of their political perspective called Where We Stand. It says, in part,

  • We are socialists because we reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo

  • We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.

The New Party was active in the United States from 1992 to 1998. The Party’s Chicago chapter included a large number of Maoist and communist members, and a large number of members of the leftist organizing group ACORN.

Yes the same ACORN and Obama that have helped to create the largest financial crisis since The Great Depression are figures at the center of the high-risk subprime mortgage social engineering community service experiment by left-wing ACORN to apply socialism to the free market and redistribute housing wealth.

acorn_activistsYes, Mr. Obama knows a great deal about the mess. He is a central figure in the left-wing ACORN exploitation of financial institutions and pressuring them to make high risk loans. The very same left-wing ACORN was guilty of voter fraud in the last presidential election and appears to be involved in voter fraud today all across the US in Ohio, Indiana and Nevada where according to the Wall Street Journal state election officials raided the offices of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, known as Acorn.

There will be whining and crying from the socialist liberal left about McCarthyism and guilt by association but we are entitled to know the political affiliations of a candidate for the nation’s highest office. The American people have a right to know what their candidates truly espouse, and we have a right to know the truth about what our candidates have done in their lives it goes strait to the issue of character and principles that go into leading as the next President of the United States.

Is Obama hiding a socialist or communist agenda? In spite of all the evidence Obama has denied or minimized these affiliations with hard-left figures, denied his membership in these Marxist political parties, and denied holding these beliefs.

We are told to ignore the past and to simply trust him on his intentions for the future. I would have a hard time mustering that trust for any political figure; to extend that trust to a figure with a track record of belonging to socialist political groups and lying about that membershipwould be a dangerous folly.

At best Obama is just unaware and being used but how can we have president that is dumb enough to get involved with a bunch of radical socialists sign a contract and not know what it means. Even worse Obama is smart knows exactly what he is doing and has adopted the Marxist-Socialist agenda of NEW PARTY and organizations like it.

We must not fool with the office of the president there is too much at stake.

Even the bomber William Ayers brother John Ayers is associated with NEW PARTY? Carl Davidson associated with Tom Hyden is associated with NEW PARTY and “Venceremos Brigades” went to Cuba trained in explosives by Castro. Then William Ayers turns into a domestic bomber.

Take a look at some of the history some of the friends of Obama that follows.

Davidson and Tom Hayden take credit for having launched in 1969 the "Venceremos Brigades," which covertly transported hundreds of young Americans to Cuba to help harvest sugar cane and interact with Havana's communist revolutionary leadership. (The Brigades were organized by Fidel Castro's Cuban intelligence agency, which trained "brigadistas" in guerrilla warfare techniques, including the use of arms and explosives.)

Many years later, Davidson would reflect on his SDS days when he, along with Dave Dellinger and Tom Hayden, had taken advantage of an opportunity to converse at length with President Castro. Said Davidson: "He [Castro] is a remarkable man, with a photographic memory, wide knowledge and keen insights.... We should all wish Fidel and Cuba well, and double our voices against the blockcade."

In the mid-1990s Davidson was a major player in the Chicago branch of the New Party, a Marxist political coalition whose objective was to endorse and elect leftist public officials. Most New Party members hailed from the Committees of Correspondence (the Marxist coalition cited in the preceding paragraph), the Democratic Socialists of America, and the militant leftist organization ACORN. Davidson first met Barack Obama through the New Party, which endorsed the latter in his run for the Illinois state senate in 1996. Obama had actively sought this endorsement, and he used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.

Dixie Chicks redux?

This was left as a comment and I thought it deserved the front page. Don't know how I missed this one. Thanks :)

"Let me rant a little:

While making a speech in France on the 3rd of April, our esteemed leader and #1 American made the following anti-American comments to a group of people who don’t necessarily see America in a positive light. This just days after presenting the King of Saudi Arabia with a FULL SUBMISSIVE bow:

" In America there's the failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America shown arrogance and been dismissive.."

How an American President could make comments like that without blinking an eye while the Dixie Chicks could make similar comments and be branded as un-American is beyond the pale. Is this “Chosen One” so above the rest of the world that whatever he does or says is OK? Is this another example of “not being proud of his country”? Is this the change the masses with “herd mentality” wants?"

Stimulas Plan explained

Shortly after class, an economics student approaches his economics professor and says, "I don't understand this stimulus bill. Can you explain it to me?"

The professor replied, "I don't have any time to explain it at my office, but if you come over to my house on Saturday and help me with my weekend project, I'll be Glad to explain it to you." The student agreed.

At the agreed-upon time, the student showed up at the professor's house. The professor stated that the weekend project involved his backyard pool.

They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the student a bucket. Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, "First, go over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with as much water as you can." The student did as he was instructed.

The professor then continued, "Follow me over to the shallow end, and then dump all the water from your bucket into it." The student was naturally confused, but did As he was told.

The professor then explained they were going to do this many more times, and began walking back to the deep end of the pool.

The confused student asked, "Excuse me, but why are we doing this?"

The professor matter-of-factly stated that he was trying to make the shallow end much deeper.

The student didn't think the economics professor was serious, but figured that he would find out the real story soon enough.

However, after the 6th trip between the shallow end and the deep end, the student began to become worried that his economics professor had gone mad. The student finally replied, "All we're doing is wasting valuable time and effort on unproductive pursuits. Even worse, when this process is all over, everything will be at the same level it was before, so all you'll really have accomplished is the destruction of what could have been truly productive action!"

The professor put down his bucket and replied with a smile, "Congratulations. You now understand the stimulus bill."

We Will Divide

Got this in an e-mail.....too funny

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know, we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but, sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot, and will not ever agree on what is right, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's, and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC the New York Times and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks, and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you we'll keep our history, our name, and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots, and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely, John J. Wall
Law Student and an American

Democrats undercut aid for U.S. workers

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-kass-11-feb11,0,657719.column

With all the hoopla over greasy pork being stuffed into President Barack Obama's near trillion-dollar spending bill, it's what is being cut out that's receiving too little attention.

And once Americans realize it, they won't be happy.

What's been quietly stripped is a provision that would have required any businesses receiving federal stimulus cash to use an easy computer program called E-Verify to make sure that the jobs they generate go to American citizens or documented foreign workers, not illegal immigrants.

Democrats Write Off ‘Crimes’ as ‘Mistakes’

"You can’t help but wonder whether Democrats pay ever taxes. It seems from the headlines that the way the system works is that Democrats levy taxes, but only Republicans have to pay them."

So, the voter fraud bullshit perpetrated by ACORN isn't enough for them eh? What better way to effect the next election than control of the census next time around. If you can control the count, you can control the way it's redistricted and therefore the outcome of the election.

More "Change you can believe in"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28989982

For the duration of the last campaign cycle we listened to Mr. Obama spout his bullshit about "Change you can believe in". Turns out it's just more of the same. He promised a “new era of responsibility.” He vowed to “close the revolving door” and “clean up both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue” with “the most sweeping ethics reform in history.”

Now he's trying to explain why these promises don't apply to the new cabinet members that didn't bother to pay some of their taxes, are/were lobbyists, etc, etc.

I guess the more things "change" the more they stay the same.

Change you can believe in

http://themoderatevoice.com/17931/president-obama-strikes-pakistan/

I know it's old news, almost 2 weeks now, I've been waiting for the "fallout". There hasn't been any. Hardly any mention from the "mainstream" (liberal) press. Where's the outcry about literally NO use of diplomacy before invading a sovereign nation. Where are the demands for criminal prosecution for "war crimes". No celebrities demanding impeachment, no protest songs, nothing......nothing but silence from the far left.

On his FIRST DAY in office your guy orders the illegal invasion of a sovereign nation. A nation we are neither at war with, nor occupying. A nation we are SUPPOSED to be allies with. He didn't request permission to launch a military invasion against civilian targets. He didn't use ANY diplomatic channels. Is he TRYING to destabilize the region?

Isn't this the same kind of shit you've been screaming about for the past 8 years?

Desk Jockeyed

I found this on snopes.com marked as true. All I can say is WHAT A GREAT TEACHER!!! I'd dearly love to shake her hand. From reading the story, it appears she has a very unique style of teaching.

In September of 2005, a social studies schoolteacher from Arkansas did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with permission of the school superintendent, the principal, and the building supervisor, she took all of the desks out of the classroom. The kids came into first period, they walked in; there were no desks. They obviously looked around and said, "Where's our desks?"

The teacher said, "You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them."

They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades."

"No," she said.

"Maybe it's our behavior."

And she told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."

And so they came and went in the first period, still no desks in the classroom. Second period, same thing. Third period. By early afternoon television news crews had gathered in the class to find out about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of the classroom. The last period of the day, the instructor gathered her class.

They were at this time sitting on the floor around the sides of the room. She said, "Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the desks that sit in this classroom ordinarily. Now I'm going to tell you."

She went over to the door of her classroom and opened it, and as she did 27 U.S. veterans, wearing their uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. And they placed those school desks in rows, and then they stood along the wall. By the time they had finished placing the desks, those kids for the first time I think perhaps in their lives understood how they earned those desks.

Their teacher said, "You don't have to earn those desks. These guys did it for you. They put them out there for you, but it's up to you to sit here responsibly, to learn, to be good students and good citizens, because they paid a price for you to have that desk, and don't ever forget it."

End the US romance before it destroys us

Two drones fired on the same day soon after Obama's swearing in have made the new US administration's intentions towards Pakistan clear there will be no respect for international law in this part of the world. This is the historic duality (recall the Monroe Doctrine) that prevails in the very foundations of the much-touted US values! So it is time for our leaders to accept certain ground realities and shape their policies accordingly.

Accept that Obama has nothing positive to offer Pakistan. On the contrary, following the drone attacks, he moved to name Holbrooke as Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, and to cut off a major chunk of money owed to Pakistan for military services rendered. And what has our reaction been? Without looking at Holbrooke's record, we have welcomed his appointment, and in response to the cutting of money owed, we have declared that we will appeal to them againas if this is part of a bargain hunt or a sale! Is this what a nuclear sovereign state does?

For heaven's sake, our military and civilian ruling elites need to salvage some national dignity. It is time the military stopped acting as a mercenary force for the Americans. The price we are paying is simply too highnot simply in money terms but in social and political terms. This is as good an opportunity as any to reclaim our bases and applaud the US in gaining a new route for NATO supplies (though that is not yet a done deal), which we should stop immediately. This supply route has been a major factor for violence and instability in Peshawar and beyond.

It is not simply the cutting off of payments that is a pointer to the new Obama-Biden policies. Biden, much touted as Pakistan's friend, has begun sounding a more strident tone vis-a-vis this hapless country with its bunch of servile leaders. This new aggressive tone on Pakistan was all too apparent in his Jan 25 interview on CBS where he reiterated Obama's election campaign viewpoint that if there is an actionable target in Pakistan the US would send its troops there.

And to clarify any doubts about what the US thinks of Pakistan's sovereignty, he refused to answer the question whether the US would notify the Pakistan before a potential US troops' cross-border movement. He also predicted increasing US casualties, which clearly means the US intends to up the military ante and in all probability send troops across the international Pakistani-Afghan border.

As for Holbrooke, it would do well to recall that the much-touted Dayton Accord was only put in place when NATO had replaced the UN in Bosnia, and the Bosnians had been militarily abused so much by the Serbs that they eventually accepted a truncated Bosnian state. I met Holbrooke at a conference in Kazakhstan a few years earlier alongside the arch-neocon Richard Perle. And I was surprised by the similarity of views they both held towards the Muslim world in general, and towards what the US was doing post-9/11 in Afghanistan. Also, if we remember that Holbrooke was Hillary Clinton's senior policy advisor, we will understand where he is really coming from. After all, Hillary Clinton supported the Iraq war till it became unpopular in the US!

Again, it was Holbrooke, as the US ambassador at the UN, who arranged for Israel to be admitted into a regional grouping of Western European and other nationsto allow Israel access to membership of crucial committees and other privileges. Interestingly, Scott Ritter, a UN Weapons' Inspector in Iraq (1991-1998), has recalled how, in a television discussion in October 2001, Holbrooke had rejected any form of diplomacy in Afghanistan and had favoured only military action. Hardly the sort of man who will be open to the sensitivities of Pakistan!

The hard reality is that the US is going to become an increasingly hostile state towards Pakistan under Obama. So it is time to alter course. We need to renegotiate the entire cooperation with this new US administration, keeping in mind the now-established Indo-US strategic partnership. We need to find our own means of countering the drone attacksrather than helplessly waiting for US goodwill.

Our Air Chief had declared we have the technical capability, and we certainly do, including our cruise missiles. So use them to attack the drones in defence of our territory. If the military is too timid for this defence of our national soil, then at least stop the mercenary intelligence sharing, close the clandestine CIA stations and troop actions in FATA and our western border. Reclaim the bases and end access to NATO supplies. All these moves can be done incrementally and we will realise the limitations of US ability to move against us without damaging their own cause. The most painless beginning can be made by recalling our ambassador to the US "for consultations."

Meanwhile, it would be more relevant if we began focusing on national policies for Swat and FATA. The military needs to be withdrawn from both these areas and paramilitary forces under civilian command need to be put in place within an overarching political framework. We need to differentiate between Swat and FATA also, since the ground realities are different in the two areas. It would appear that in FATA the locals have coalesced with the militants and "foreigners" as a result of the erroneous policies of the Pakistani state, whose military is seen as fighting America's war, and also as a result of the drone attacks, which have increased the operational space and recruitment of the militants.

In Swat Fazlullah initially got support from the local people. However, with the bloodshed and attacks on schools and the horrific killings and mutilation of bodies, the present relationship between the locals and the militants in Swat is one based primarily on fear and on a distrust of the military. They see the military as having failed to protect them against a Taliban force that primarily comprises outsiders, local criminals, and the unemployed and war-affectedthat is, those who have lost family as a result of military action.

Unless we seek truthful answers to some crucial questions, we will not be able to restore peace in Swat. Where is the funding for the militants coming from since it runs into tens of millions? Reports from people on the spot put the daily payment for Taliban fighters anywhere between Rs300 and Rs1,000. Add to this cost of food, arms and ammunition and transport. And if we accept that there are between 5,000-10,000 Taliban, this is a costly enterprise even if we calculate on averages. Secondly, where are the weapons coming from, along which supply routes? Why, when the media can access the militant leaders, the intelligence and military seemingly cannot act against them? Is it inability or unwillingness and, if it is the latter, then the crux question: Why?

The total failure of the state to protect its citizens and assert its writ has led to the present despicable situation where the most vulnerable are being targeted: women and girls in particular, and children in general. While the militants are blowing up schools, the military is using schools as their trenches, and thereby as targets for the militants. If one looks at the casualty figures one will see who is really suffering, who is losing and who is winning. Approximately 12,000 civilians have so far been killed in Swatagain, according to the local viewpoint, mainly by firing from security forces. Around 200 security forces (FC, army and police) have been killed while approximately 75 Taliban have been killed.

The biggest losers are the civilians caught in the middle and the military, which is not only suffering high casualty rates but is being undermined in the long term by a growing chasm between itself and the nation's civil society. This is what Pakistan's enemies want; why are we seeking the same?

Tailpiece: The hypocrisy of the BBC is truly legendary. They refuse to broadcast a humanitarian appeal for Gaza but BBC World was broadcasting ads for the Indian army immediately before and after their news services during the Kargil crisis.

Aging of the Presidents

Much has been said about the aging of the President of the United States during their terms in office. Below are just a few examples (pictures on the left were taken their first year in office, pictures on the right were taken during their last year in office):

The party of change?

This is how the "Party of Change" behaves toward the outgoing President of the United States? And surprise surprise there is virtually no mention of it in the "mainstream" (read that Liberal) media. Had the roles been reversed, ie crowd booing and taunting an outgoing dem president, you can bet your ass it would have been plastered on the front page and headline of every paper and news report from here to hell and back.

What a moron. THE most important oath he will EVER take IN HIS LIFE, and he can't even get it right. He want's to lead the greatest nation on earth and he can't even get through the Oath of Office without screwing it up. What's he going to do when he has a real problem on his hands. Blame the man administering the oath all you want, but the fact remains, HE COULD NOT EVEN REPEAT WHAT HE WAS TOLD TO SAY WITHOUT MESSING UP!! So much for your "eloquent" speaker.

In other news, Your guy thinks he can tell people who they should listen to as well.

Sounds like a childish threat to me. I think the first paragraph says all you need to know about the arrogant ass living in the whitehouse

One last reminder to Mr. Obama

January 20, 2009
by Steve Osborn

Dear Mr. Obama, You are about to take Bible in hand and repeat the following:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

I ask that you consider this oath and what it means. I have been watching your selection of the players on your new team, and see that many of them are the authors or the worker bees that have shredded our Constitution and Government. That does not give me confidence.

I watched your introduction of your new team and saw only one brief mention of the Constitution. The rest was dedicated to a need for more intrusiveness, more spying, more searching and restricting of We the People. That does not give me confidence.

I listened to your campaign promises to end the wars and end the gulags and have watched you hedge and back off on every one of these promises. Now we are to have more and wider wars, we are continuing to back Israel including sending them several thousand tons more munitions as they raze Gaza and slaughter its population. Closing the gulags is going to be complex and time consuming. That does not give me confidence.

You indicated that We the People, not They the Wealthy would be helped to survive in the economic chaos brought on by the Bush "help the wealthy" program. My bank does not have any money to loan to the retired, the marginally employed, to refinance stressed mortgages, etc., but it did buy another bank since they got the bailout. That does not give me confidence.

You are said to be a Constitutional scholar. You should know that the Constitution mandates impeachments and bars pardons for the impeached. That the impeachment process is much like a Grand Jury. It certainly does not require multi-million or billion dollar investigations when anybody with a copy of the Constitution and Bill of Rights can point out many repeated violations of the documents and, many noted scholars as well as laymen have produced excellent Articles of Impeachment, only to have them ignored or tabled. Yet, you now hedge and say that bringing these crimes into the open would be counter productive, or that proof would be difficult and costly to obtain. That does not give me confidence.

In short, since you won the election, I have seen a great deal of "Bush Lite" and "Business as usual." I think you should heed the words of Thomas Jefferson, who said, "The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first."

We the People have watched those chains being systematically cut and shattered by all three branches of the government. What Jefferson feared and warned about has come to pass. You were elected to bring about change, to restore our Constitution and bring some honesty and decency back to the United States, to tie the government back down with the chains of the Constitution. We see you hedging around that mandate. That does not give me confidence.

We have watched the American People being turned into homeless serfs as the wealth of the country has been bled off by the Oligarchy that has run the country for the past few decades and its jobs have been outsourced to countries where desperate people will work for a couple of dollars per day, then further to where starving people will work for a handful of rice. That does not give me confidence.

If you are not going to work to return our country to us, to restore our Constitution and Bill of Rights as the rule and guide of our nation, and act internationally to restore respect for, in place of fear of, the United States in the world. That does not give me confidence.

If, in fact, we are looking at four more years of an unconstitutional and growing police state, then I ask all of you to remember another of Jefferson's quotes. "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."
That worked two hundred and thirty-three years ago in shedding another tyranny and, that does give me confidence.

Don't let us down again.
Sincerely,
Steve Osborn

Pissing in your Cherios

I thought I'd better start my tirades on a separate blog, as they seem to have hit a very sore nerve with some of my family. There have always been thinly veiled political jabs on our family blog, but recently mine have been more up front and honest.
I lean neither right or left, but more in the middle. While I like President Bush, I'll be the first to tell you he wasn't perfect as a leader, He at least had the testicular fortitude to do what was necessary at the time. Yeah, he made some mistakes, he made some unpopular decisions, he even screwed up more than once. But I still think he was good for us. Can you imagine a wishy washy Al Gore on 9-11?

I didn't vote for Obama, nor did I vote for McCain. I think both of them were too wrong for the job. Neither of them would be willing to run the government on a pay-as-you-go basis. Both were/are planning TRILLIONS in new spending. Those TRILLIONS have to come from somewhere, and as the government doesn't generate income, it's gonna come out of our pockets.

I've put up with the jabs, jokes, and general negative bullshit about him and his presidency for the past 8 years. But when I started to return the "favor" after the most recent election, it seems my political commentary isn't appreciated, and has actually generated some hostility. So in the interest of peace and harmony, I'll keep my political views separate.

I have had my last political discussion with those members of my family. I love them dearly, and wish to maintain harmony with them. If a discussion turns to politics I'll simply keep my mouth shut and walk the fuck away.

So let's see where this goes.

In the beginning

This is to be a place for my political thoughts, links, and such.

My rules are simple:
1) If it offends you, leave. nobody is keeping you here.
2) Comments WILL be moderated by me. If I don't like the comment....it goes away.
3) I will give credit where credit is due for links posted here.
4) If I copy something here, I will put a link back to where it came from.
